The Sennheiser HD 490 PRO uses 38 mm dynamic drivers with a wide 5 Hz–36 kHz frequency range and a fancy 4-pin mini-XLR from headphones to 3.5 mm TRS cord. You should also note the 130 Ω impedance, they will still work without a headphone amp but you may enjoy them far more with a proper pairing. To further lend credence to it’s professional status the HD 490 PRO comes with an activation code for Deer Reality’s dearVR MIX-SE DAW plug-in, worth $100 or so.
If you like the look and sound of Sennheiser products then the 490 PRO will not disappoint, they keep the same design you are familiar with along with choices in earcup pads and other customization. On the other hand, the $400 price tag doesn’t compare favourably with some of the competition, nor even some of Sennheiser’s other offerings.
