Blizzard Versus The GOG Preservation Program
In nine days, on December 13th, the original Warcraft versions will be pulled by request from Blizzard and as they own the IP they are indeed able to do that. From that day forward, all that will be available for purchase are the remastered versions, which have been described as looking like “Zynga games made by a blind duck“. However if you pick up the original Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II on GOG before they are pulled, you will benefit from the new GOG Preservation Program.
That means GOG will continue to provide support for the original versions of the two Warcraft games going forward, even if they aren’t allowed to sell them. You will still have access to everything you do now, including offline installers and GOG will ensure the games remain compatible with systems in the future. If you don’t already have a copy, or don’t want to bust the seals on your boxed versions they are on sale in a bundle on GOG right now.
