Game developer Barnyard Games and entertainment company Superplastic announced today they’re collaborating on a new project: Bringing Superplastic’s animated characters to a video game, specifically Fortnite. The two are launching their own title, Fortnite’s Most Wanted, a combat map built with Unreal Engine for Fortnite (UEFN). The game is available to play now and features two characters already familiar to Fortnite players: Janky and Guggimon.
In Fortnite’s Most Wanted, 12 players battle it out in a leaderboard to vandalize a Superplastic-inspired city. Players collect paint cans, graffiti various surfaces, eliminate their rivals and avoid being eliminated themselves. The map features Superplastic characters like Janky, Guggimon, Dayzee and the Lil’ Helpers. The assets for the characters in the UEFN title com from Superplastic’s Unreal-based animated show, which is currently in the works.
Jennifer van Dijk, Superplastic CEO, said in a statement, “This partnership blends Superplastic’s unique style and artistic vision with Barnyard Games’ cutting-edge game development – the perfect combination to deliver an experience packed with unparalleled creativity, immersive gameplay, and compelling narrative. Our goal is to introduce fans to our Superplastic IP in familiar environments, and this collaboration is a giant leap towards that vision.”
John Blakeley, Barnyard Games CEO, told GamesBeat in an interview about the ways in which influencers and game designers can collaborate: “We are witnessing significant success as influencers expand their engagement beyond their initial platforms. Many are now creating physical and digital goods and developing various experiences around their brands… Influencers, who own their audiences, are evolving from content creators to creative executives, partnering with developers to build unique experiences that revolve around their brands. This is what you’re seeing with the partnership between Barnyard Games and Superplastic.”
